Inner Appearances

New works by MAYA BLOCH at Thierry Goldberg Projects showing figures that veer towards abstraction, yet remain figurative. It is largely, though not exclusively, the penetrating eyes that tend to pin the figures into place, reinforcing their concreteness and bodily presence. Maya Bloch Maya Bloch, Untitled (Inner Appearances), 2010. acrylic on canvas, 59x47 inches.

Haunting figures with those eyes that seem to have seen it all. The color patterns and shape of the figures remind me somewhat of Romare Bearden's work. Thank you for sharing this with us.

they are like an angry, bewildered humanised landscape. a watching rock formation..something i am drawn to - the portrait/human body as a landscape
