I am so glad I found your blog!!! I'm a new drawing professor and I'm having the students do a map-based self-portrait for their final project this semester. I was looking for inspiration, and this site has been extremely helpful. Thanks a lot, and I'm looking forward to anything else you may recommend.

You can also go over my old blog, where there are some maps you might find interesting:

Thanks. I have that book, a book on kathy prendergast, several old atlases/navigational books, and many internet sources. Do you know the artist derek lerner? He has interesting map-like work. Also check this out: http://www.rokebygallery.com/matrix_engine/content.php?page_id=944&image=1094

this relates to the themes you (and I) seem interested in - of recording our environment in some way. Feel free to email me or check out my website:

i would like to discuss these topics more, it is something that I believe is very relevant to our world/world-view today.

If you email me (email on contact on website) I'll try to get some pics in a few weeks after they do their drawings.

It would be very exciting to me to get the exposure. I'm glad you liked it. I'm working on some new pieces right now.

Have you ever seen a map of the interior of a coal mine? I know this is a strange question, but I could email you some images if you're interested. They're amazing. Not at all like the topographical exteriors of mining maps. They look like beautiful diagonal line abstractions.
